BEACH VENTURES IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
Dive amongst the outstanding corals of the Red Sea, venture into the desert, go on a botanical journey or sit back and dig into the cultural gem that is the Eastern Desert, we’ve compiled some of the best experiences to have on your next trip.
ABU DABAB BEACH
Located 8 km north of Wadi Sabarah Lodge, lies Wadi Abu Dabab one of Marsa Alam’s larger beaches. Shared by a number of hotels, this is Marsa Alam’s liveliest beach with a number of food and drink outlets, a range of oriental tents and bazaars, ball games, music and entertainment. The beach is decked out with cabanas, deck chairs and bean bags.
With a gentle entrance to the sea and housing sea grass on the seafloor, this wadi is a good place to view Marsa Alam’s largest population of over 100 sea turtles and the renowned but rare dugong also known as the sea cow. It is also
distinguished by its amazing coral reef.

Emperor Divers are onsite in Wadi Sabarah and organise daily trips to explore the local coastline. Divers and non-divers alike are welcome to join on boat trips from both Port Ghalib and Marsa Alam jetties, and bus trips to the ‘marsas’ (bays) and accessible entries to the fringing reefs. Marine life is usually the star and so diving or snorkeling is highly recommended, but there is always space for those who like to stay dry to relax in the sun or the shade around natural surroundings.
SNORKELING
Directly in front of Wadi Sabarah and to the north of our pier, ‘The Deck,’ there is a beautiful house reef. Also between the two jetties of Wadi Sabarah and our sister hotel, Oasis (400 metres south of us,) there are 700 metres of beautiful reef to explore. Open reef brings a large variety of marine life, but it does mean on very windy days it may be necessary to snorkel elsewhere due to currents and rough conditions. Our onsite dive centre Emperor Divers organise daily guided group and private trips for divers and snorkelers, both on our house reef and other destinations. Please inquire what trips they have operating each day based on weather and conditions.
We also have a selection of partners we work with to provide off-site marine adventures as listed below. Please inquire at our reception desk about booking these.
FREEDIVING
Wadi Sabarah is an ideal location for accredited, experienced freedivers. Our house reef drops off to 25-30 metres. Currently, we do not have an in-house instructor, but weights can be rented for two or more freedivers diving together, with the presentation of certification. Please visit Emperor Dive Centre, located on our beach to discuss your needs and freediving plans.

HAMATA ISLAND
It’s a day trip and sometimes referred to as ‘THE EGYPTIAN MALDIVES. You will drive about 1.5 hours to Hamata Marina, board your vessel and set sail to the islands of Hamata fringed with some of the most beautifully coloured coral reefs you can find anywhere in the world, sandy beaches so white that the archipelago is sometimes referred to as ‘the Egyptian Maldives’ and tranquil lagoons where you can snorkel and admire the abundant and diverse sea life.

SATAYA REEF ("DOLPHIN HOUSE")
Swim on the surface of a turquoise sea surrounded by dozens of playful dolphins in the wild. Sataya Reef often nicknamed “Dolphin House” is located off the coast is an ideal place to swim with dolphins in the wild. Lunch is served on board. Drive 1.5 hours, then board a boat for 2 hours to get to the reef. Full day excursion onboard shared vessel.

RAS HANKORAB
Located in the heart of Wadi al-Gemal (“Valley of the Camel”), Sharm El Louli is 60 km south of Marsa Alam town. The beach itself is pretty spartan though with no shaded structures of any sort which in part is the main attraction. You may find shelter in the Bedouin tent where coffee and tea are brewed and served the traditional way. This is a great location for enjoying the protected virgin reefs and exotic marine life. At low tide it’s a perfect lagoon and it’s easy to wade in thanks to the gentle gradient of the sea bottom which eventually leads out to deeper waters with a maximum depth of 20 meters to the shore side of the reefs. Travel time to the beach is approximately 2 hours.

DESERT SAFARI
Our journey will take you through our dry river beds to view various geological formations, flora, and if you’re extremely lucky you may see some of our fauna such as ibex, our wild mountain goat, or hydrax which resemble rodents but whose closest living relatives are actually elephants and manatees…
CLASSIC FJ 4x4 TOYOTA's
Our roofless fleet of FJ,s have been adapted to give you maximum view and allow you to experience the diversity of our Wadi system in our backyard. Our journey will take you through our dry river beds to view various geological formations, flora, and if you’re extremely lucky you may see some of our fauna such as ibex, our wild mountain goat, or hydrax which resemble rodents but whose closest living relatives are actually elephants and manatees. Don’t forget: the desert never sleeps.
Adaroub from the local Ababdah bedouins is in charge of the trips and fleet FJ ́s. He is an experienced tracker and has traversed extensively throughout the Eastern Desert.

QUAD BIKES
Quads are a great activity that has the potential to be fun for almost anybody. While it can be intimidating to new people, you will quickly pick it up and enjoy the ride through our desert. Our quad bike excursions take place on hard surfaces with minimal environmental impact. It’s a good way to explore the outer parts of the desert between the coast and the Red Sea Hills ridge, bond with people, and get a little exercise. The trip lasts 3 hours with a stop in our neighbor, Om Saad (Mother of Saad) and her son Saad for tea and coffee with their family. Sunrise or sunset options are available. For a small fee, the family has camels if you decide to try riding them.

NATIONAL PARK
Following the Red Sea coastal road for a little over an hour where we reach the National Park “Wadi el Gemal”..
WADI EL GEMAL
This full-day tour combines some of the best sights of the Eastern Desert: its fantastic landscapes and its most spectacular archaeological sites. We leave after an early breakfast. Following the Red Sea coastal road for a little over an hour where we reach the National Park “Wadi el Gemal”. The park is named after the valley “Wadi el Gemal” (valley of the Camels) which cuts from West to East through the mountain range. This Wadi was well known throughout history as an important trading route. Along this route we find many traces of this desert’s history.
You visit the National Park’s most known ancient settlement Sakit and its emerald mines. Sakit is famous for its well-preserved Roman houses and its small temple dedicated to Isis cut out in living rock. During our off-road drive through Wadi el Gemal, we will also look in detail at its unique vegetation.
This excursion is carried out in trooper land cruiser where you will be sitting in the back on benches facing each other. It can be strenuous.

WALKING TOUR
Take a private car to Quseir 100 km away from us then walk through the old town on foot and visit its landmarks…
EL QUSEIR
The city of El Quseir dates back over 5000 years. Historically it was the endpoint of the Wadi Hammamat trail, an important route connecting Egypt and the Red Sea. Drive by private car to Quseir 100 km away from us then walk through the old town by foot and visit its landmarks.
Visit with us this historical town and have a look at various shrines, the Ottoman fort, Governor’s Palace, Grain Barn, Corniche City, Al-Ajimi Cafe (the oldest cafe), old town houses with wooden balconies, Al-Fran Mosque (open during prayers), and more…
On our tour, we will stop for tea and coffee.
Your guide will be Ali Yousef, founder and director of SEAS, a green entrepreneur organisation working to preserve the city’s heritage and biodiversity by raising awareness amongst the local population.
